You know someone is your best friend when they lend you their schnauzer for a month. Yes, Piper is on loan to his heartbroken aunt and uncle until mid-October. His job is to, well, to be a schnauzer, and he is doing it quite well. He does have 12 years of practice under his collar. To keep us both busy, I have begun working with him to reinforce some fun things like heel and stay. Wouldn’t it be grand if we progressed to doing some dancing while he is here! We’ll have to see if he has the same twinkle toes as his cousin did. It’s been nice just doing routine dog things, like letting him out to do his business, feeding him, petting him, combing him and all the other normal, everyday things one does for/with their dog. It’s helping to fill some of the empty space, both within and without. Piper is looking up at me, as if to say, is it my turn to blog now, Aunt Amy? Take it away, Piper.
Hi, it’s fun to use my Angel Lexi’s blog and I am sure she wouldn’t mind. It’s been kind of strange to smell her everywhere, like on her dog bed and the rug, but not be able to find her.
Today I went to work with Aunt Amy and I could smell Lexi on the floor in her office. I licked the floor where she used to lay a lot; it helped me remember her better. I got to meet Mr. Dave, who was Lexi’s favorite person at work. He always brought her treats and talked really nice to her. I only barked at him once, then I got lots of ear scratches. He has a schnauzer, too, so I couldn’t scare him with a bark.
I was pretty good at work. Mostly. I did poop in the hallway and pee on the carpet in the pastor’s office (again). I got scolded a little, but it wasn’t bad. Aunt Amy says my cousin had years of office work experience under her collar, and doesn’t expect me to know everything right away. I am glad she understands that I am very new at this and am still learning, and I had the accidents from being a little nervous. I wonder when I get to start doing actual office work and what it will be. Maybe I could shred papers for the church.
Next came the Big Surprise! We went out for lunch to celebrate the pastor’s birthday that was 2 months ago. These crazy humans. Hey, maybe they were waiting for me to be able to go with them!!
When Aunt Amy went inside the building – you know restaurants in the U.S. still won’t let dogs inside…what a backward country – I started to scream. Yep, I’m a screamer. So pastor took me up close to the door and I settled down waiting on Aunt Amy to come back out. When Aunt Amy came out, she took a look at where we were and said, “So, did Piper start screaming?”
Hi Mom Kim. That is a good point. We’ve got to get some basics down first, like heel and stay. I have to keep reminding myself that Lexi didn’t get to the dancing point in a month!
Lady Shasta, Piper says thanks, and thanks for the clothes tip. Lexi hated clothes, but she has a pinkish shirt I would put on her if it was really cold out- hope the pink wouldn’t bruise his ego too much.

Mom Kim here – As for training Piper to dance – I was watching a tv show this morning where the dog trainer said a lot of times it is easier to work with and train an older dog because they (the dog) is not learning with all that hyper energy of a puppy and is better able to focus on what is being taught. That was a great thing that your friend did by sharing Piper with you.
Lady Shasta here – Hey there Piper, great job on the blogging. Yea, my mom wishez she cood take me with her everywhere altho it haz bin so hot here lately she sed she wood leeve me home anyway. Oh well – can’t wait tue c u agin. Oh an’what u wuz talkin’bout – bein’able tue smell Angel Lexi butt just not c her; I git that cuz my bruther Angel Shiloh left earlier this year – mom haz an old shirt of hiz that she hazn’t washed an’found out that if she putz it on me when we haf thunderboomerz then I don’t git scared so much. I wish I cood wear it more.
See ya later……….

Hi Kosmo. I am beginning to get used to the idea of dogs and cats being friends. I used to have a cat housemate many years ago before she died, and we were friends. ~ Piper

Piper it is so great that you will dry the tears of your aunt and uncle a little. I scream too when I have to wait for the mama, then all people wonder that such a big dog has such a girlish falsetto voice :o)

Nice to meet you, Piper. I knew Lexi for a short time, but she was a special dog, and I liked her posts. And you are also an interesting dog and I like your post, it reminds me of Lexi.
I have to tell you, that I am a cat, I hope it is ok.

There are a lot of us Piper, Lexi used to call us Et Al 🙂 Lucy kitty is pretty fussy, (shhh don’t tell her I said that.) so she likes forehead bumps instead of hugs. Linus kitty thinks he’s a Golden but he doesn’t like hugs unless he wants them. But the rest of us Goldens love to eat and love, love, love attention so the question remains is there ever enough treats and hugs? Um nope!

Hi, Piper! I’m glad you’ve got to bring lots of joy to the peeps around you this week. And I know how it feels to be confused where a doggy pal is. I felt that way about my angel sis Katie. The best thing you can do is imagine Lexi with a wagging tail frolicking around with all of her pals, like Katie.

Good job, P. I think you’ll get that indoor accident business under control soon. Screaming seems like a great idea whenever things don’t go your way. Why not?
Love and licks,
Cupcake

I do miss my family at home some, but this is my family too and am happy to be here for a while. Hey, maybe Cow Kitty and I could team up to hunt, like my sis Ella and I do. We catch rabbits that way in the backyard. ~Piper

We are delighted Piper is with you and Lexi’s dad. He’ll keep you alert and on your toes. We enjoyed your post Piper and we understand nervous. Some things that happen around here would make a canary jump for cover, what with Cow Kitty being an excellent hunter and all.
We send our love and thank you for deciding to live with Lexi’s mom and dad for the next month.
