Grateful for Blogville

This is Amy, Mom to Lucy and Xena, as well as Angel Lexi. I am sharing my gratefulness today for Blogville. I first used Dogster. Dogster limited its users to 5 pictures and there was no real community there. Because it had been bought out with the new owners talking about closing down the blogging portion, I decided to create my own website to blog about Lexi, my thespian schnauzer. I soon became addicted, and was thrilled every time someone new found The Adventures of Lexi the Schnauzer – actually, I still am!

Of course it’s easy to become attached to animals. I was, however, a bit surprised when I found myself starting to really care about many of the people behind the keyboards. I watched a true community form whenever someone was in need – whether it was for prayer, encouragement, financial, or all three. Then, when I was losing – and lost – my heart dog Lexi I was overwhelmed by the kindness, the caring, and the support I got from this community of people I had never met in person. I don’t know what I would have done without you.

Now, you join me in enjoying the antics of my girls. You commiserate with Lucy over her trials with the “cute puppy,” applaud her in her victories, worry for her when she runs off, and rejoice when she shows the world that bullie breeds are actually sweet, loving dogs. You follow along with Xena as she learns about her world, overcomes her fears, tries to dominate her bigger siblings and grows way to fast. And you give me many smiles and some tears with pictures and stories of your own furbabies.

Thank you. thank you, thank you for all of this. I am grateful for each and every one of you — friends who have become family. Wishing you folks here in the U.S.A. a wonderful Thanksgiving and hoping everyone else celebrates right along with us.

God Bless.

  1. We love Blogville too. Magic our miniature schnauzer had her blog for 7 years and then retired passing the baton to Moth the Affenpinscher. Thank you for dropping by our blog and leaving comments. Look forward to following your blog too – nose licks and love from Moth xx

  2. I agree! I am also thankful for the blogging community. I was surprised at first – still am a little – that we develop genuine connections with each other. Of course, our pets make it easier. This is a wonderful forum for introverts to meet and support each other. Thanks for following my blog; I’m certainly enjoying yours!

    1. I am glad you are enjoying the antics of our two girls and various guests. I had lost the “follow” on yours, so just went in and started to read. 8 Lessons has me crying. First for so many losses in one year. Then, because I have wondered if I didn’t see my Lexi in our new Xena. I don’t think it’s wishful thinking, as it’s been a year and I went into this relationship with a new puppy intentionally saying she is a different dog, and we will find our way without comparing her with Lexi. Now I wonder…
Going back to your site to try to follow again.

      1. How embarrassing! I thought I’d seen you stopping by. I’d heard of Lexi for quite some time but had never found your blog until recently. It is hard to lose a companion, even if they come back again, but it certainly takes the edge off. I’m glad for you that this is a possibility. Our connections with our loved one can be strong for both us and our companions. Knowing that it is the same Pet that has returned keeps me from feeling guilt when I love a new one.

      2. You saw me comment on your interviews on Bacon’s site. 🙂 No apology necessary, glad you found us. Lexi would be glad to know of her fame, but then, she never doubted that.

  3. Amy it is a pleasure to know you & your dogs. The pairing of Lexi with Noodle & Siddhartha Henry with Phoebe was wonderful & I still smile when I read those blogs. And you are right we ARE a community who support & care for each other as if we were family! I can tell you I know more about my blogging family than my actual family (they have chosen to not associate with me due to my illnesses). When I need support or advice I know someone in Blogville will be there for me!
Did you know I started blogging back in August 2005 on Yahoo 360? I had Mingflower the Merciless back then. It became Multiply & we reached a bigger audience & made lifelong friends. When the site was being terminated 3 of my friends said come to WordPress & I felt at home right from the start! The following is amazing & there are lifelong friendships. Many people stopped blogging & went to Facebook & we are still friends to this day!!!
Blogging is one of the best things to happen to me & I to, am grateful to know such wonderful people like you!!! And the amazing Lucy & wonderful Xena dogs also.

    1. Thanks for this, Sherri-Ellen. Yes, I count you among my friends, too. I just don’t have time to read the blogs plus Facebook, so every once in a while I scan Facebook. {{hugs}} to you too.

    1. I count you as a friend, Monika. And I gobbled up sweets yesterday, and, despite my determination to the contrary, am at it again today. Maybe I’ll hop back on the wagon tomorrow. 🙂 And yes, everyone is aware of Lucy’s “grounding,” so she hasn’t had a chance to run off.

      1. As I do you, Amy. So grateful to have met you digitally and connected separately on the cross we two bear when it comes to sweets. I have had my fair share of sweets these past two days but am making portions as small as possible. This is not the time of year to feel cheated. I plan to take extra walks to help reduce the caloric intake. 😇

  5. Amy, we feel the same way. We are new to creating a blog but have read cat and dog blogs for many years and it is amazing to see so many types of people come together for support. We all have one thing in common – our love and respect for animals and their owners. I am so happy I found your blog. You are a funny and a great writer. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

    1. Aww, Ruby, this is so sweet, and made the pup’s Mom smile real big. I am thrilled to hear a pibble won the show! How wonderful!! And yes, Rosy is a real cutie patootie, along with our Xena. They would have quite a time playing if they weren’t on opposite sides of the country! But Xena is figuring out how to play with the big dogs without getting smooshed. Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving, and thank you for your kind words.
