Miss Beth is was is my favorite person at work. I have always felt happy when she came to see me. Now she has replaced me with a dog she adopted to live with her. The dog’s name is Mallie. Me and Mallie almost got in a fight the first time she came into my office. Sure, sure, we met outside, where there’s lots of room to walk around and not feel so much “with” the other dog. When we went inside she did something really gross.  She stuck her nose under my tail and sniffed my bee-hind. I jumped around to face her and growled. She wagged her tail, like, yeah, growl all you want, I still got to stick my nose up your bee-hind. I was angry.  Next thing I knew, Mallie growled and jumped at me. That really scared me. After those feelings passed, I felt sad. Have I lost my Beth?

The next time Mallie came to my office, we pretty much ignored each other. And I ignored Miss Beth. I felt hurt and disappointed.

Then Miss Beth came in without Mallie and stayed for a few hours. I wondered if she sent Mallie back to wherever she found her. I felt happy and gave Miss Beth a lot of attention.

Mommy explained to me that Miss Beth had rescued Mallie from a bad place that made her have puppies over and over again. She said I should try to be more understanding and loving and to try harder to get along with her. Now I feel kinda guilty. I still don’t want Mallie here, but I know I should try harder to be her friend. I feel really conflicted. What do you do when this kind of thing happens?

  2. We sure hope you and Mallie will give the friend thing another try, we bet Mallie will start to open up(and not be so rude) once she has some time to get used to being in her furr-ever home. I don’t like when other pups put their nose under my tail either…I usually just sit down when they try!

    1. Hi Rosy. It’s been so long since I’ve seen Mallie, it will be like starting over. Maybe that will be a good thing, and I can try harder. ~Xena

  3. Xena sweetheart, sometimes it takes awhile to get used to the new pups in our life. I’m going to tell you a secret, there is enough love for everyone so hang in there and give it some time and I’m guessing Mallie and you will become friends before you know it. ~ cuddles, Mrs. Margret

  4. New dogs can be scary and threatening at first. I have a feeling you two will get used to each other in time. Even if you don’t become great buddies, you will be OK together. Mom’s friend’s dog gets right up in my face all the time. I bark and growl at him. I’m trying to teach him manners, but he’s a slow learner.

  5. Ohhhh Xena…you mom is right…Mallie has a lot of things to overcome and things in her mind to let go of…probably like mean dogs in her face. Mom tells me the first family pet was a mighty mini Dachshund named Toto…..and she told me Dachshuds have serious attitudes and are full of themselves BUTT they are also very good pups so time will heal things I’m sure.

BUTT that was no reason to sniff your BUTT w/o a proper how do you do to your face.

  6. Xena, remember how long it took you and Lucy to become forever friends? She thought you were there to take her place too. Mattie doesn’t know anything about living in a world of toys and playing and butterflies and peoples laps and kisses. She has to learn new things everyday just like you did. It’s natural for her not to trust yet and you can help with that. She also might be protective of Miss Beth. and doesn’t want to share her so she was warning you to stay away..This will take baby steps for awhile. You wont lose Miss Beth because she loves you and in time Mattie will learn to love you just like Lucy does.

Just take it slowly, one day at a time and you’ll be great furfriends in no time and you’ll wonder what all the growly stuffs was all about

Darling Xena, that is a conundrum for you, isn’t it? I am sure Miss Beth has got space in her heart for you still, it’s just that Mallie will need settling in time everywhere just now; you can be part of her healing. Or not. That’s entirely up to you, little warrior. Then again, the truth is that we cannot necessarily like everyone we meet. Another couple of attempts will reveal whether it is worth the effort, or if it’s time to accept your paths need not cross. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. You’re right, YAM Auntie, Miss Beth says she loves us both, and I’m still her puppy. She has been leaving Mallie at home in her kennel to help her get used to it, so I haven’t seen her again. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens if/when she comes back.

    1. Mommy says you are right, that I have known nothing except “the good life.” And that makes it even harder for me to understand. I will wait and see, Kosmo. Puppy hugs, Xena
