At Work on My Birthday

Here I am at work with Mommy, getting baby hold time on my very first birthday. I wonder when I am going to get my nice pressies. I wonder what I’m getting special for supper. I’ve even got my birthday cupcake scarf on so efurryone will know it’s my special day.

 

 

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions for what to ask for on my birthday. Mommy’s giving heart worm prevention to a no-kill shelter in the area. And I’ve asked for more of what I already have, since I can’t think of anything new.

Mommy, Mommy, I need you to tell me sumptin.

Today I turn one year old, right? Does that mean I’m all grown up and I’m not your baby anymore? *whispers* I still want to be your baby.

Mom: Xexe honey, no matter how old you are, you are and always will be my baby and my heart, all wrapped up in one.Good! When does the party start?

  1. I like your ideas, and hope they can be implemented. I’m sorry I agreed with the harshness of the comment; however, I have seen such horrible “mistakes” made by our local city shelter, like a dog being put down the day it’s owner was coming to pick it up from a “hold.” And have also heard such horror stories from vets who used to work there.
    I just had a wonderful encounter with a person from our local humane society, who serves the county. To shorten a long story, I found a cat this week that I thought was injured and they came out and persisted until they found her owner and made sure she would be ok.

  3. That’s a bit harsh! How about empathy pills to change the mindset of those managing kill shelters? There’s got to be a better way. For instance the Multnomah County Shelter in Oregon helps feral cats by giving them to farmers who need rat/mouse control. After spaying/neutering them and vaccinating them of course.

    Also, The Pacific Northwest is a hotspot for micro-breweries and cats are employed to keep rodents from eating their grain. Just like the Egyptians did when cats were worshipped. Just because we humans can’t find traditional homes for some of the homeless animals does not mean they are useless. I am sure this type of “out of the box” thinking can be applied to dogs and all animals too!

  15. Hugs and “scritches” Xena and a very, very Happy 1st Birthday to a grown-up pup! Mom gave you a very good answer to the “Am I grown up?” question, I thought. I think all parents feel that way about their kiddos!
